For those confused about the PSS:

There have been a lot of enquiries about online vs paper. The handout does say hand in by block 3 on A3 paper. However, in the interest of saving paper and the planet, you will not be required to print out your work, IF you can do a proper online portfolio. We will give you feedback after your 1^st hand in on tips of how to improve your portfolio if it needs improvement.

Regarding the questions you have to answer about the portfolio work. There are questions to be answered ABOUT each drawing’s and then more GENERAL questions for each hand in.

Please read the PSS handout for top to bottom. It is clearly explained there. But keep on asking questions if you have read it at least 5 times and still do not understand.

End of Term 1, 2011

Please follow the link to the End of Term 1 PODCAST, which you will find in the righthandside column, under "PODCASTS".

Interim submissions (now until 8 August)

This year, we are interested not only in the end product, but also the PROCESS that you follow. Therefore, it is important that you show us that you are CONSTANTLY INVOLVED with your work, that you UNDERSTAND WHAT it is that you do, AND WHY, and that you CRITICALLT REVIEW, REWORK and IMPROVE ON your work.

For the interim submissions (until 8 August), you must submit work that displays the range of your competencies (skills). Therefore, don't only work on computer, also work freehand, work in 2d, 3d, etc. Work must be clear and legible (easy to understand your thinking). Use a good mix of diagrams and text to communicate.

All the stages in the process must be represented in your final submission. However, you may decide to only invclude the best work (highlights) that represent each key stage. But all the work done, leading up to the end result, will support that final submission.

Also note the deadline for resubmissions.

We detect a serious state of laziness for reading which must be set right. I can assure you that face to face students don't get nearly as much guidance as you are getting on this course! There should be more than enough information on the blog to know exactly what is expected of you to do for the next hand in on 18 March. And then, if you are still unsure, you are MOST WELCOME to post a question on the fb group, send us messages through fb, or e mail us if necessary. The facebook platform offers you the good opportunity to get your questions answered promptly! You have almost immediate contact with your peers and lecturers. So if you have a question, do not hesitate to ask!

Dear all. Thanks for your comments and questions. We need your feedback and input so that we can make this second year not only work, but exceptional!

Please complete the question (on the right hand side of this page) about a possible Saturday workshop to clarify progress, feedback and the way forward. If there's good interest, we will gladly arrange such a workshop.

18 March Hub submission

1. LISTEN TO the podcast for your group, posted on the fb group amd blog
2. Now write down, IN WORDS, the DESIGN IDEA that you formulated in your group
3. We suggest that you now INDIVIDUALLY  MAKE SENSE of the FUNCTIONAL and TECHNOLOGY analyses that you just completed, and the PRECEDENT STUDIES ANALYSED
4. Think about and formulate the LESSONS LEARNT from these analysis. In other words, what does the information MEAN, how can it INFORM your decision-making process? DO NOT RUSH THIS PROJECT STAGE.
5. Now prepare sketches, diagrams with text and IDEA DEVELOPMENT MODEL 1, addessing the issues and discoveries made
6. Do discuss your DESIGN PROCESS with your employer or his/ her representative, and at least ONE peer (fellow student)
